Genesis Unveils Magma GT Concept to Spearhead Performance Division
Genesis officially presented the Magma GT Concept at the 2025 Los Angeles Auto Show, marking a definitive step in the brand’s evolution from luxury manufacturer to high-performance contender. The unveiling confirms that the “Magma” designation, first teased earlier in the year, will function as a standalone performance sub-brand analogous to BMW M or Mercedes-AMG. The low-slung coupe features the division’s signature molten orange paintwork and aggressive aerodynamic modifications, including a widened track and a prominent active rear wing designed to generate substantial downforce at track speeds.
While Genesis declined to release final output figures, technical briefings at the show point to a high-output dual-motor configuration utilizing the company’s 800-volt E-GMP architecture. Engineers hinted at a target output exceeding 600 horsepower, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time targeting the sub-3.0-second range. The concept is equipped with an electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD) on the rear axle and larger carbon-ceramic brakes, addressing the thermal management challenges often associated with heavy electric performance vehicles during sustained track use.
Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer at Genesis, described the concept as the “emotional flagship” of the brand, stating that the Magma GT is designed to prioritize driver engagement over raw straight-line speed. The interior reflects this philosophy, stripping away standard luxury amenities in favor of carbon fiber bucket seats, a roll cage, and a race-inspired steering yoke. This driver-focused approach aims to differentiate the Magma GT from the more touring-oriented electric GTs currently saturating the market.
Market analysts suggest the production version of the Magma GT could arrive as early as 2027, serving as a halo car to validate the performance credentials of the wider Magma lineup. By targeting the segment currently dominated by the Porsche Taycan Turbo and the Tesla Model S Plaid, Genesis is making a calculated bid to capture enthusiasts who demand track capability alongside electrification. The concept will remain on display throughout the LA Auto Show, with further technical specifications expected closer to a production announcement.
