Volkswagen Unveils Massive New SUV Over 5.2 Meters Long
Volkswagen has introduced a striking new large SUV tailored for the Chinese market that stretches beyond 5.2 meters in length. This model known as the ID. Era 9X measures about 521 centimeters long with a width of around 200 centimeters and a height of 181 centimeters paired with an impressive 307-centimeter wheelbase. It stands out as one of the biggest vehicles the brand has ever produced emphasizing generous space for families who prioritize room and advanced technology.
The interior focuses heavily on digital experiences with a dashboard featuring dual 15.6-inch screens that handle most controls for the driver and front passenger. A traditional instrument cluster is absent replaced instead by a head-up display that projects essential information directly into the driver’s view. Rear passengers enjoy a luxurious setup thanks to a large 21.4-inch screen that folds down from the ceiling creating a mobile theater-like environment. Additional projectors built into the second-row doors deliver multimedia content while ambient lighting stretches nearly 13 meters throughout the cabin including around the panoramic roof for a cohesive glowing atmosphere.

Seating comes in a six-passenger layout across three rows with captain’s chairs in the second row that offer enhanced comfort and easy access to the third row. The flat floor made possible by the electric architecture boosts overall spaciousness making it feel even more open inside. Physical buttons are kept to a minimum as touch controls and voice commands take over most functions aligning with preferences for highly connected smart cockpits in that region.

Power comes from an innovative extended-range electric setup marking the first time Volkswagen has used this approach. A 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine with 141 horsepower serves solely as a generator following an efficient combustion principle that optimizes the air-fuel ratio for lower emissions. It charges the battery and powers the electric motors without directly driving the wheels. Buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations along with battery options of 51.1 kilowatt-hours or 65.2 kilowatt-hours delivering up to roughly 248 miles of pure electric range according to the local testing cycle. The heavier variants tip the scales at about 5952 pounds highlighting the substantial build.

This SUV blends precise German engineering with design elements that appeal to Eastern tastes resulting in a vehicle that feels both premium and forward-thinking. Volkswagen positions it as a flagship demonstrating maximum connectivity artificial intelligence integration and a fully digital interface without classic switches. It forms part of a broader strategy to introduce over 20 new energy vehicles in the market by 2027 addressing demand for hybrids and extended-range options.

The ID. Era 9X arrives as a specialized offering aimed at standing out in a competitive segment where screen size range and tech features often lead buyer decisions. It combines family-friendly proportions with cutting-edge amenities that turn every trip into an engaging experience.
