Bugatti continues to push boundaries with its exclusive Sur Mesure program by revealing an extraordinary one-of-a-kind W16 Mistral nicknamed La Perle Rare. This open-top hypercar stands out as a true masterpiece celebrating the final days of the legendary W16 engine era. The project began after a chance meeting in 2023 at Pebble Beach between the client and Jascha Straub, head of the Sur Mesure department. Inspired by the delicate beauty of a pearl, the entire creation blends breathtaking performance with meticulous handcrafted artistry from the Molsheim workshops.
The exterior captures light in mesmerizing ways through a custom two-tone finish that evokes pearl shimmer. Craftsmen developed unique warm white and gold hues infused with real gold particles for a luxurious glow. Hundreds of hours went into the painting process with precise masking and layering to create seamless transitions and a milky extension effect across the body. Diamond-cut wheels add extra elegance while the overall design follows Bugatti’s signature Waves of Light motif for stunning reflections in any setting.
Inside the cabin harmony reigns between the pearl theme and supreme luxury. White-lacquered carbon fiber panels pair beautifully with gold-toned stitching, emblems and subtle engravings throughout. Ambient lighting highlights polished aluminum accents creating an intimate jewel-like atmosphere for driver and passenger. A special tribute appears on the gear shift lever featuring the iconic Dancing Elephant motif originally sculpted by Rembrandt Bugatti brother of founder Ettore Bugatti and long reserved for the marque’s most prestigious models. Jascha Straub’s handwritten signature graces several spots including the engine bay and rear wing as a personal mark of the craftsmanship involved.

With only ninety-nine Mistral units planned worldwide this roadster represents one of the most demanding custom commissions yet. The pearl-inspired aesthetic combined with noble materials and endless manual finishing hours transforms the car into more than just transportation. Under the hood the familiar 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine produces 1600 horsepower channeled through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to all four wheels. Acceleration from zero to sixty-two miles per hour takes just 2.4 seconds while top speed remains electronically capped at around 236 miles per hour for road safety though the powertrain could handle far more. This open configuration marks the ultimate send-off for the W16 in a roadster body blending raw performance with refined elegance.
The base Mistral already commands over five million dollars yet extensive personalization using precious elements pushes La Perle Rare well beyond that figure with estimates suggesting around eight to nine million dollars.
