Cupra Born Gets Major Update with Up to 600 Kilometers of Range and Launch Control
Cupra has given its popular electric hatchback a thorough refresh that boosts efficiency, performance, and everyday usability. The updated model now offers an impressive maximum range of around 600 kilometers on the WLTP cycle thanks to optimized battery setups and other refinements. This facelift brings a sharper exterior appearance along with meaningful interior improvements that address previous driver feedback. Designed and developed in Barcelona, the car continues to ride on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform while emphasizing Cupra’s sporty character. Production is set to begin in the second quarter of 2026 at the Zwickau plant in Germany with market availability following in the summer.
The exterior receives a more aggressive stance through redesigned front and rear bumpers paired with striking triangular LED matrix headlights. An illuminated rear logo integrates seamlessly into the 3D taillights for a distinctive signature after dark. Buyers can choose from six body colors including the fresh Timanfaya gray while wheel options range from 19-inch to 20-inch alloys. Wider 235-millimeter tires on the larger wheels enhance grip and agility on the road. These visual tweaks align the Born more closely with Cupra’s current family design language without losing its compact charm.

Under the hood the lineup simplifies to three main configurations all featuring rear-wheel drive. The entry-level version delivers 140 kilowatts or 190 horsepower from a 58-kilowatt-hour battery for roughly 450 kilometers of range. Moving up brings a 170-kilowatt or 231-horsepower motor with the larger 79-kilowatt-hour pack pushing range to about 600 kilometers. The top VZ trim unleashes 240 kilowatts or 326 horsepower from the same 79-kilowatt-hour battery maintaining that benchmark range while adding serious acceleration punch.

Performance enthusiasts will appreciate the new launch control function available on the Endurance and VZ versions for maximum off-the-line thrust. The VZ sprints from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 5.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour. One-pedal driving makes its debut across the range for smoother urban cruising while ESC Sport mode and up to five driving profiles plus adaptive chassis control with up to 15 settings let drivers fine-tune handling. Regenerative braking paddles behind the steering wheel offer extra control over energy recovery.

Inside the cabin feels more premium with redesigned door panels and a steering wheel that now includes physical buttons instead of touch-sensitive controls. Sustainable materials play a big role featuring recycled elements like Seaqual yarn from ocean plastic and up to 75 percent recycled dashboard trim. Four ambient lighting options create a welcoming atmosphere while the overall layout prioritizes tactile quality and driver focus. These changes make the Born more intuitive for daily use without sacrificing its energetic vibe.
This refresh positions the Cupra Born as a stronger contender in the compact electric segment blending extended driving distance with genuine hot-hatch excitement. The combination of efficiency gains and added performance features shows Cupra listening to owners while pushing the envelope further.
