Peugeot Renewed The 408 With More Evolution Than Revolution

Peugeot has officially unveiled the updated version of its stylish 408 crossover at the Brussels Motor Show. This mid-cycle refresh focuses on refining the existing strengths of the vehicle rather than overhauling its identity entirely. The French automaker has opted for a strategy of subtle evolution, keeping the distinct fastback silhouette that initially grabbed attention while sharpening the details to align with the brand’s latest design language.

The most noticeable changes are found on the exterior where the front end has been softened and modernized. Designers have implemented a new split lighting arrangement that places the daytime running lights in a three-claw pattern above, while the main headlights are tucked discreetly below. Higher trim levels now feature an illuminated shield badge on the grille, adding a premium touch to the nose of the car. At the rear, the traditional lion logo has been replaced by illuminated lettering that spans the width of the tailgate. A dynamic new body color called Flare Green has also been introduced, which shifts its hue from bright yellow to deep green depending on the lighting conditions.

Inside the cabin, the updates are modest but effective in maintaining a modern feel. The signature i-Cockpit layout remains the centerpiece, now enhanced with a new 10-inch digital instrument cluster that offers improved graphics. On top-tier models, this display includes 3D effects for better readability of driving data. The central infotainment system is controlled via a familiar 10-inch touchscreen, and the interior ambience has been upgraded with fresh upholstery options, including Alcantara on specific trims.

Under the hood, the powertrain lineup continues to offer a variety of choices for different driving needs. The fully electric E-408 is a highlight of the range, featuring a 58.2 kWh battery that delivers a range of approximately 456 kilometers on the WLTP cycle. This electric model also gains practical new features such as battery pre-conditioning and Vehicle-to-Load capabilities, allowing the car to power external devices. For those not ready to switch to full electric, the lineup still includes plug-in hybrid options and a mild-hybrid 48V system that balances performance with fuel efficiency.

This refresh positions the 408 to remain competitive against rivals like the ‘Renault Rafale’ and the Citroen C5 X. By polishing the aesthetics and adding functional technology, Peugeot aims to sustain the appeal of this genre-bending vehicle in a crowded market. The combination of the new front fascia and the updated tech features ensures the car feels current without losing the character that defined its launch.
