Renault Reveals Filante As New Prestigious SUV With Chinese Technology
Renault has officially unveiled its latest flagship model known as the Filante during a global premiere in South Korea. This new coupe SUV represents a significant step for the French automaker as it combines European design heritage with advanced Chinese engineering. The vehicle is positioned as the most luxurious option in the local lineup and aims to capture the premium segment with its distinct styling. It serves as a direct follow up to the Grand Koleos and highlights the growing importance of the Korean market for the brand.
The exterior design follows a bold direction that sets it apart from other models currently available in Europe. A sloping roofline gives the car a dynamic coupe silhouette while the rear features a floating spoiler for better aerodynamics. It measures nearly five meters in length and provides a wheelbase that ensures ample interior space for passengers. Renault designers in France collaborated closely with their counterparts in Korea to create a look that blends two different automotive cultures.
Under the hood lies a sophisticated powertrain that utilizes technology from Geely. The car sits on the CMA platform which is also used by vehicles like the Volvo XC40 and Polestar 2. This architecture allows for a robust hybrid system capable of delivering impressive performance figures. A 1.5 liter turbocharged petrol engine works in tandem with two electric motors to produce a combined output of 250 horsepower. The system includes a specialized multi mode automatic transmission that optimizes efficiency for both city and highway driving.
Inside the cabin drivers will find a high tech environment that rivals luxury competitors. The dashboard is dominated by three large screens that span the width of the interior and provide access to navigation and entertainment. High quality materials such as Nappa leather cover the seats and other touchpoints to enhance the premium feel. Fabrice Cambolive who serves as the CEO of the Renault Brand stated that the Filante illustrates their approach of combining French DNA with Korean excellence.
Nicolas Paris from Renault Korea emphasized that this vehicle satisfies the high standards of local customers while helping elevate the brand value globally. The car is packed with safety features and offers a level of comfort that is expected in this class. Passengers can enjoy a premium sound system and a quiet ride thanks to active noise cancellation technology. The generous trunk space also makes it a practical choice for families who need room for luggage.
Production will take place at the Busan plant with sales starting in South Korea before expanding to other international markets. The Filante is specifically targeted at regions like South America and the Middle East rather than Europe. European buyers will continue to have the Rafale as their top tier coupe SUV option. This strategy allows Renault to tailor its offerings to specific regional preferences and take advantage of different manufacturing partnerships.
Do you think this new model would be a success if it were sold in your country?
