Skoda Has Just Redesigned Its SUV Which Costs Only 10,000 Euros
While European drivers often face rising vehicle prices with entry-level SUVs starting around 21,000 euros, other markets enjoy significantly more affordable options from the same manufacturer. Skoda has recently unveiled a comprehensive redesign of its popular crossover model that retails for approximately half the price of its European counterpart. This vehicle is the Skoda Kushaq and it has just received a major update to keep it competitive in the bustling Indian market. The model serves as a fascinating example of how automakers adapt their strategies to offer high value in different economic regions.
The Kushaq was developed specifically for India as part of a localized strategy and sits on a modified version of the MQB architecture used by the Skoda Kamiq in Europe. Engineers have tailored this platform to meet local demands while keeping production costs low enough to offer the vehicle at a starting price near 10,000 euros. This price point is remarkable when compared to similar vehicles sold in Western markets where safety and emission regulations drive up costs significantly. Exterior updates for the new Kushaq are extensive and give the affordable SUV a more modern and robust appearance. The front end has been completely reworked with a new and wider grille that ditches the massive chrome frame found on the previous version. Flanking this new grille are redesigned LED headlights that provide a sharper look and improved visibility for night driving. The rear of the vehicle also sports noticeable changes including thinner LED taillights with fresh graphics that emphasize the width of the car. A red LED strip now connects these lights and features an illuminated brand logo which is a design touch becoming common on newer models.
Under the hood buyers can choose between two reliable petrol engines that offer a balance of performance and fuel efficiency. The base model comes equipped with a 1.0 TSI three-cylinder engine delivering 115 horsepower which is paired with either a manual gearbox or a classic automatic transmission. Those seeking more power can opt for the 1.5 TSI four-cylinder engine with 150 horsepower that features active cylinder deactivation technology. This more powerful unit is exclusively available with a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission for a smoother driving experience.
This update is crucial for Skoda as the brand aims to strengthen its foothold in the highly competitive Indian automotive sector. The company also offers an even smaller and cheaper SUV called the Kylaq which starts at roughly 7,200 euros and has quickly become a best-seller. These aggressive pricing strategies allow the brand to capture a massive segment of customers who desire European engineering without the premium price tag usually associated with it. The Kushaq remains a core pillar of this approach and its latest redesign ensures it remains an attractive option for budget-conscious families.
