Skoda Superb Gains New Most Powerful Petrol-Engine Variant in Premiere
Skoda has unveiled an upgraded plug-in hybrid version of the Superb that now stands as the most powerful model in the lineup equipped with an internal combustion engine. This new powertrain combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine delivering 177 horsepower on its own with an electric motor adding 116 horsepower for a combined system output of 272 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. The setup pushes the Superb ahead of the previous plug-in hybrid and even the Octavia RS in overall power figures. Acceleration from zero to 62 miles per hour now takes 7.1 seconds which is roughly one second quicker than before while top speed climbs to 140 miles per hour.
The battery capacity reaches 25.7 kilowatt-hours supporting strong electric-only performance alongside the petrol component. Power flows through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to the front wheels keeping the driving dynamics responsive and efficient. Engineers focused on enhancing the braking system with larger ventilated rear discs measuring 12.2 inches in diameter to handle the extra performance reliably under heavy loads. This upgrade positions the plug-in hybrid not just as an economical choice but as a genuine performance contender within the Superb range.
Design-wise the model appears in Sportline and Laurin & Klement trims for distinct personalities. The Sportline trim brings a sportier edge with darkened exterior accents special 19-inch wheels and a suspension lowered by about 0.6 inches to sharpen handling. Laurin & Klement emphasizes luxury featuring premium leather upholstery chrome accents a high-end Canton sound system and adaptive suspension as standard equipment. These options let buyers tailor the Superb to either dynamic driving or refined comfort without sacrificing practicality.
The new variant highlights Skoda’s push to blend electrification with strong combustion performance in its flagship sedan.
